“Money comes and money goes.” You’ve probably heard that saying once or twice before. While many use this saying to justify their pour spending habits– and I am one of them, I think it really resonates with those of us in the service industry.
Money is such a tangible thing in our line of work. At the end of the night we hold our earnings, count it 2 or 3 times to make sure it’s all there and go home… or to the bar. We see it, hold it, smell it, feel that accomplishment, the triumph of a good shift. And then there are those nights when the amount you walk out with is well disappointing, be it the shift was overstaffed, the host was fucking you or all 10% tips (rare, but it does happen!) Going to work is like a gamble, with tremendous highs and crushing lows. And then I remember that is the price I pay for having a job that allows me the freedom to work when I please, a job that at the end of day pays the bills.
I always try remember that my job offers me something much more valuable than money, TIME. Time for myself, to spend with my family, to relax, take a yoga class, smoke, cook, drink, clean the house, request off whenever I want- This list can go on but I’ll stop there. Nothing is more valuable and precious than your time. They say it’s money after all, and I’d agree.
So when ever I have a bad day I first think back to the last Saturday I legit walked out with rent in one day… and how greatful I am that I have a job that allows three days off and week.
And when I do have a shitty day I like to do something nice for myself like…
Nothing like a nice rub down to get that bad money mojo (and stress) out. I recommend Moonlight Spa. Clean, great service and cheap (Only $45 for an hour.) Call a head because they book up sometimes.
Chill Out at a Coffee Shop
There is nothing like actually taking the time to enjoy a cup of coffee. So next time you need a your Joe fix, sit down, bring something to read and just relax. Coffee shops have cozy vibes for a reason.
Pizza, Netflix and Weed
Because who doesn’t love all 3 of those?
Treat Yo Self
My go to is oysters and cocktails. Instant feel good.
Go for a Walk
And if you’re not trying to spend any dough go for a walk to clear and calm the mind. Does wonders. Besides it’s fall, it;s fucking beautiful out.
What do you like to do to cheer up after a bad shift? Besides drinking… obviously. Leave a comment below.
